Is this a great country or what? Just when you thought that all reason had been left behind; just when you thought that democracy wasn't working and just when you thought maybe the world wouldn't be a better place for our children ... BANG, Massachusetts resumes its historic role as a catalyst for liberty. Who would have thought that the citizens Massachusetts would look deep within to their inner core sensibilities and see through the haze of media and democratic hype to send a message. The message was that we have had enough. Enough taxes, enough spending, enough of the kowtowing to the special interests lining up at the trough to feed from the federal deficit.

Even now the Democrats are laying blame for the defeat in Massachusetts not on Obama but on what they contend was a poor democratic candidate. This is notwithstanding Obama's personal appearances on that candidate's behalf. They claim this is not a referendum on their policies or their president. Is there no lesson to be learned from those these Democrats allegedly serve? Of course there is, but it is hard to listen when one is deafened by one's own hubris. Their deafness will be their downfall and rightfully so.
I will confess that I had my doubts as to the length and breadth of the dissatisfaction with Obama. The media worked hard to create doubts and led many to believe that what we were seeing in the tea parties was nothing more than a fiction of Fox news' imagination. Sure I knew that Obama was a fiscal nightmare, but did everybody else realize what colossal mistakes this man was making? Logic dictated that the disastrous policies of this administration should turn the silent majority into an angry majority. I kept asking myself, why is it taking so long for people to get disgusted? Well it wasn't that long really; it just seemed like it. The first opportunity for people to show their disgust and their concerns were in the elections in New Jersey and Virginia. Those citizens sent a message – forget all of the expensive programs designed to turn ours into a society engineered by the government --- address jobs, the economy and the debt!
The gall of this administration and this congress to agree to exclude unions from being taxed for the "Cadillac" benefit programs as part of health care "reform" (while still taxing non union employees) on the eve of the Massachusetts election shows just how out of touch and arrogant this administration and this congress really are. President Obama has abdicated his leadership responsibilities to congress and they in turn have abdicated their responsibilities to this country by being lackeys for special interests. From pork barrel "stimulus" to union carve outs this Congress stands as a testament not to transparency, but to back room deals at the expense of the common good.
At every gathering I attend I find myself multiplying the number of participants by $40,000. That is the per capita federal debt of every man, woman and child in this country. All of us are in debt up to our ears and that doesn't account for state and local debt. Look around and do the math. It is It is a sobering exercise and it is frightening. This is our crisis and that of our children. Very soon we will simply be unable to do anything about it unless we make reducing the deficit a priority --- now. Continued "leadership" such as that provided by this president and this congress will do nothing but exacerbate the problem. Even now, instead of exercising leadership this president chooses to name yet another commission to study the debt and to make recommendations regarding
how to reduce it. He controls both houses of congress. Why does he need a commission? What he should do is just show some guts and intestinal fortitude and lead!
I love my country and I am so proud of those who worked to preserve its greatness by taking the time and effort to help with the win in Massachusetts. Many, such as our own Tim Malloy, traveled from outside Massachusetts to man the polls and work the phones. We owe them our thanks.
I am looking forward to the next round of elections where we can hopefully repeat the Massachusetts miracle. Maybe there is hope for us and our children after all.
Is this a great country or what!
