President's Note   by Alex Godun

It has been almost two decades since political strategist James Carville penned the campaign slogan; "It's the economy stupid". Today our nation finds itself back in the same dire economic situation - actually even worse.  This time we don't need a political consultant to create a rallying cry. Americans on both ends of the political spectrum are fighting mad. On the left recently there have been protesters marching on Wall Street to fight the greed of big business. On the right a couple years ago the Tea Party began fighting the "good fight" against big government's wasteful spending. Regardless of the political persuasion, Americans will no longer quietly tolerate the amount of unemployment, out of control spending, and general misdirection of the country. It is a sad state of affairs that hopefully will begin to change with next year's presidential election.

In the mean time before that national election we have a current local election where our Republican candidates recognize that our community is a microcosm of problems for our nation. Luckily our candidates are bringing to light the fiscal irresponsibility and mismanagement of the current Democrat leadership. Our candidates are willing to hold their opponents accountable - especially when those opponents will lie about their records, promise anything, and even switch parties! Our candidates know that we can't allow this unacceptable status quo to continue. We can't allow taxes to continue to increase. We can't allow the School Board and teachers be given a "blank check" to profit at the expense of the taxpayers and students. We can't allow ourselves - as Republicans - not to get involved to create a change.

I urge you to do all you can in these last few weeks before the election.  Volunteer to help a campaign. Write a check to provide financial support. Place a sign on your lawn. Talk to your neighbors to remind them to vote.  Ask your Committee Person to help at the polls on Election Day. There are more ways to help than can be written down here in the Trunkline. So regardless of how you choose to help - just do it!!! Jeff Bennedetto & Dobby Dobson, Chris Cridge, Steve Kosmorsky, Sam Spera and Team Main Street... they all can use your help.

Regards,
Alex Godun

PS - oh yeah, don't forget to vote!

Harvest Day 2011
All week the weather was forecasting rain - and plenty of it. But on the day of this year's Harvest Day, the weather and fun couldn't have been better. In fact, many manning The LMT/Yardley GOP booth commented that the crowds at the event seemed the largest ever. To greet those crowds were both Local and County candidates. Each visitor had a chance to not only have their questions answered by the candidates, but leave with one hand filled with brochures and the other a redwhite- or-blue balloon!

     Message from the Candidates
Martin, Moore & Vliet for Borough Council!

Yardley Borough Republicans are in it to win it this year with three fresh faces gearing up for a hard fought election for Borough Council. Local business owner Sean Vliet, realtor Lauren Moore, and Republican Committeeman Tim Martin are raising eyebrows with their "Waking up Main Street" message and commitment to bring real reform to get Yardley's visitors out of their cars, onto our sidewalks, and into our shops. Vliet, Moore and Martin – or "Team Main Street" – came out swinging in early May, energizing a Republican base hungry to take Yardley back, and have promised to roll out their 5 point Main Street Reform plan in the fall.

Sean Vliet, owner of the Continental Tavern, is leading the team's focus on Main Street, while Tim Martin is bringing his commitment to making the most of Yardley's natural resources like the Delaware Canal and River. Lauren Moore, meanwhile, is working hard in Yardley's largest neighborhood, the Commons, where residents are about to lose their only representation on the Borough Council after Democrats moved to replace incumbent Councilwoman Pat Sims.

With a focus on Main Street, the water, and the Commons, Team Main Street is spending the summer knocking on doors and energizing their volunteers ahead of an aggressive, organized, and well funded Get-Out-The-Vote campaign in the fall. With help from our friends in the Republican Club, Team Main Street it in it to win it!

County Commissioner's Race
By Anita Stiles

This year's race for County Commissioner has been described as an off-year election - off - year referring to elections that do not involve national positions. This is a misnomer because these local and state elections are  critical to the preservation of the Republican party. It is the local, and county elections that provide the building blocks for state and national office. Every election above us is helped by the election of local, city and state positions.

2012 looms ahead as probably the most important election of our lifetime. The Democratic party has been hi-jacked by the far left, espousing irresponsible socialist ideals that must be stopped. Local and county elections are the first line in the defense of conservative American values. Now more than ever we need to keep Republicans in control of local elected positions especially that of the Board of County Commissioners.

To this end the Bucks County Republican party has put up two strong candidates in Charley Martin and Robert G. (Rob) Loughery, both presently serving as County Commissioner.

Both Charley and Rob have had solid business experience in the private sector. Charley spent more than 30 years in management and public affairs with PECO Energy Company. Rob was an expert in economic development and a partner in Keystone Redevelopment Group, LLC. These men understand the realities of real world finances, managing resources and the repercussions of debt and frivolous spending that plagues a fiscally irresponsible Democratic party.

Rob Loughery was sworn in as Bucks County Commissioner in February of 2012 to fill the unexpired term of former Commissioner James F. Cawley, Esquire who now serves as Lt. Governor. In addition to his work in private enterprise, Rob has been a civic leader, working for the Redevelopment Authority of Bucks County and the Bucks County Economic Development Corporation.  He has also been very active serving on community-based and non-profit organizations.

Charley Martin was elected as a Bucks County Commissioner for the first time in 1995 and has successfully served the needs of the citizens of Bucks County, overseeing an operating budget of $448 million.  During Charley's tenure Bucks County, has operated on a sound financial footing without increasing taxes for the last 5 years.

These candidates as well as local candidates in Lower Makefield and all over Bucks County are working tirelessly for the future of our residents. We need to support their efforts in any way we can, but especially in the voting booth on November 8th.
